Kensington Palace recently announced that Kate Middleton and Prince William’s eldest child, Prince George, will soon attend Thomas’s Battersea School in London.
And while most children don’t receive a worldwide announcement marking the beginning of their schooling career, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are determined to provide their little ones with all the trappings of a “normal” childhood.
With that in mind, the much-loved duo is expected to take the school pick up and drop off in turns when their son begins school this September.
“They are very hands-on parents and although they acknowledge that it might cause a bit of a buzz to start with, they are hopeful it will soon settle down,” a source told the Daily Mail.
They added, “It’s very important to both of them that George enjoys as normal a childhood as possible, particularly as he settles into a new school, and for them, this includes dropping him off at the school gates.”
“Kate wants George — and later daughter Princess Charlotte — to have the same school experience that she did as a child. Both she and William very much agree on this and think George will be very, very happy there,” another source explained.
The royals are expected to travel the half-hour journey to the southwest London school without a security escort — yet another step toward normality.
The £6,385-a-term (approximately $6,900) school currently has 544 day pupils, aged between four and 13.
Upholding a set of core values — kindness, courtesy, confidence, humility, and learning to be givers, not takers — the elite school holds an impressive record of senior school entrance and scholarship successes. In fact, the Tatler Schools Guide says the “cream of the Battersea crop rises to the likes of Eton and Wycombe Abbey.”
The school’s extensive grounds also include a kindergarten, which Charlotte, 23 months, is expected to attend.
The much-speculated decision may surprise royal watchers, who had largely picked the three-year-old to attend the same school as his father and uncle, Prince Harry.
The royal brothers were educated at Wetherby Preparatory School, a prestigious boys-only school, based just half a mile from Kensington Palace in Bryanston Square, London.
We can’t wait to see the tot on his very first day of ‘big school!’ And his royal parents!
