“Kristen is very talented and we’re delighted she chooses to wear Nike, but we’re not currently in discussions with her over an endorsement contract,” a spokesperson for Nike North America Communications tells E! News.
Rumors began swirling that Stewart was fielding an offer from the popular footwear line earlier this week, particularly because she has often been seen swapping her sky high heels for a pair of comfy sneakers on the red carpet after posing for pics.
“The company obviously wants to broaden its base from athletes to actors, and, in particular, appeal to young women,” Radar Online reported. “Nike execs believe that with her tomboy cool image, Kristen would be the perfect celebrity spokeswoman to create some new excitement about the brand.”
The tabloid also reported that it’s “not the easiest deal to make, as Kristen has shunned dozens of offers to endorse products since her rise to fame in the Twilight films,” adding that “Nike will have to roll out some serious money if they’re going to be able to close a deal with her.”
But Nike says that’s simply not true and despite K.Stew’s love of their classic tennis shoes it seems that she won’t be repping the brand any time soon, although you should expect to see her wearing her Nike kicks (or signature Converse, which is also owned by the company) while out and about.
“She’ll always change into her Converse by halfway through a carpet, which is to be expected at this point,” Stewart’s longtime stylist Tara Swennen told Marie Claire back in 2012. “But she puts on the heels for me for the photos, God bless her. At the end of the day, I want my clients to be comfortable because I think it shows. She needs to put on her sneakers and that’s alright with me.”
She continued: “‘I clearly prefer a heel. I just think it photographs better…But it’s part of her personality; I think it’s fun when she does it. There are definitely times when I have to say, ‘Please, please, please put the heel on just for me.'”Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
