Back in November 2010, the royal couple announced their engagement to the world and later released two official photos to commemorate the occasion. In a new interview with The Telegraph published Jan. 18, Mario Testino, the photographer who captured Kate and William so beautifully, says he “could see they were in completely in love.”
“I waited a long time, an hour or two, to make that picture perfect,” Testino said of the snuggly shot which shows Kate and Will smiling radiantly and embracing each other warmly. But this warm, timeless photo didn’t get taken until after Testino had finished the shoot!
The royal couple “were about to leave and they suddenly hugged in front of a radiator,” he says. “I took my camera and that was the picture that ran everywhere — it was spontaneous emotion…you could see they were completely in love.”
Swoon. Testino could see William and Kate’s affection for one another earlier on, too. In 2008, Kensington Palace asked him to put together a display of his photographs of the late Princess Diana. Testino felt he “couldn’t do anything about [Prince Harry and William’s] mother without their approval,” so they came to view the rooms.” Prince Harry brought along his former girlfriend Chelsy Davy, and William was joined by his future wife Kate.
Testino tells The Telegraph Harry and William were “natural and unpretentious,” like their mum. And while he finds Harry to be “so like Prince Charles” in his actions, with a “sense of humor” and “confidence,” he thinks William “is more like his mother.”
“There’s a kindness and a gentleness there that instantly wins you over,” he says. And yes, back at that 2008 meeting, Testino could see William was completely “in love with Kate,” explaining, “I knew they would stay together.”
But Prince George‘s mom, he says, doesn’t remind him of Diana. “Kate, she is beautiful in a different way: she radiates happiness,” he says. “She is comfortable in her love.”Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
