Monica Warhol, an artist who lives and works in Tucson, Ariz., and identifies herself as the cousin of the famous Andy Warhol, used the E! star as her latest muse for a new piece of artwork, and the first photos of the finished product have been revealed (courtesy of In Touch Weekly, hitting newsstands tomorrow).
“It’s a special gift,” Monica tells the mag of the opportunity to paint pop culture icons. “I am picking up where Andy left off, and Kim is the perfect addition to the Warhol legacy…There is no way Andy Warhol would not have painted her. Kim is manufactured gorgeous and is beyond fabulous. How could Andy not have been inspired to paint her like he did Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor?”
The initial report of Warhol’s latest work also claims that Kim’s fiancée Kanye Westcommissioned the piece, however, Kim’s rep tells E! News “there is no truth to this.”
Monica Warhol’s creation continues her cousin’s visual art movement known as pop art by using his familiar bright colors for multiple silk-screen prints from photographs, and is part of what Monica refers to as her “ongoing series of contemporary Superstars.”
“My style incorporates layers upon layers both hand drawn and in Photoshop, printed out and burned to individual silk screens, and is then hand-painted in the beginning, middle and the end,” she tells In Touch.
Monica tweeted earlier today, “Kim is all over me, covered in paint, if only I cleaned up as well as this beauty,” suggesting that the celeb’s print got a little messy (Kim was not actually present for piece).
Along with Kim, Monica’s done two portraits of rapper Flo Rida, which can be seen in the video for his song “How I Feel,” a piece of Lenny Kravitz after meeting him in the Church Boutique in Los Angeles and has painted Richard and Robert Dupont, the twins who hung out at Warhol’s Factory.
