His rep confirms to E! News that the action-loving actor is in talks to reteam withOblivion director Joseph Kosinski on the gearhead-fantasy movie Go Like Hell, based on A.J. Baime’s Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and their Battle For Speed and Glory at Le Mans.
According to The Wrap, which first reported that Cruise was circling the film, the 51-year-old movie star would play racing champ turned engineer Carroll Shelby (the Shelby Mustang’s namesake), who was instrumental in helping Lee Iacocca and Henry Ford II turn Ford Motor Co. into a formidable player in the high-speed world of European auto racing.
Le Mans, of course, refers to the 24-hour endurance race that takes place annually near the French city of the same name and is 18 times’ longer than the Formula One Grand Prix.
And if Cruise ends up taking the role, with Kosinski in the driver’s seat (so to speak), he would barely have to switch gears, adrenaline-wise: Before cameras can get rolling on this one, Cruise is supposed to shoot the fifth Mission: Impossible movie, so he’ll already be in killer shape.
He’s up next on the big screen opposite Emily Blunt in Doug Liman‘s aliens-vs.-humans action flick Edge of Tomorrow.Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
