Schrader, who made an appearance at the film fest today to promote The Canyons alongside costars James Deen and Tenille Houston and writer Bret Easton Ellis, labeled himself a “free man” now that the film is complete.
“For the last 16 months I’ve been held hostage, by my own choosing, to a very talented but unpredictable actress,” Schrader reportedly told the media before the film’s premiere. “She was supposed to be here today. She said she would be, but she is not.”
While it seems Schrader was under the impression LiLo was locked in for the media appearance, a source tells E! News that the 27-year-old “was never fully confirmed, though she did plan on and wanted to come.”
Lohan did post a photo of Schrader, Deen, Houston and Ellis all at the Venice Film Festival on her website today. The caption with the pic reads, “The cast of The Canyons steps out for the photocall at the 70th Venice International Film Festival along with screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis and director Paul Schrader. Have you watched the movie yet? x TEAM LOHAN.”
