In honor of the royal baby’s birth on Monday, a Houston Texas bakery has marked the historic occasion by building a massive life-size butter cake of Kate Middleton cradling her newborn boy and third in line to the throne.
Nadine Moon, owner of Who Made the Cake!, told ABC News that the edible treat—which went on display this past weekend as part of Houston’s Bridal Extravaganza Show —weighs an estimated 200 pounds and stands at 5 feet, 6 inches tall.
The cake wiz and her team worked for a week sculpting the life-size likeness, creating the duchess’ torso out of Rice Krispie Treats and topping the scrumptious dessert with layers of vanilla and amaretto butter cream frosting along with a white chocolate fondant. She also hand-painted Kate’s beautiful brown coif and the gray lace dress she wears.
As for Kate and Prince William‘s little bundle of joy, Moon has the baby wrapped in a blanket with a gold HRH [His Royal Highness] monogram on it and his face peeking out.
“I think everyone loves Princess Kate’s story, it’s everyone’s fairy tale,” the cake designer told the site. “I think she’s such an inspiration to so many brides, and we thought it was a neat thing to honor her and do a life-size tribute to her in cake and Rice Krispie Treats with the baby.”
Moon and her team now hope to ship “Cake Middleton” to the newly minted parents at their Kensington Palace residence for the entire royal family to enjoy as a baby gift.
Luckily, the bakers made sure the cake won’t fall apart during transport by constructing it on wood dowel rods and an elaborate PVC-pipe system which ought to hold it together. And the cake should be safe to eat as it will stay fresh for two weeks, she said.
If Kensington accepts the confectionary extravaganza, Moon added she’ll head to London to make sure it remains in one piece—a cake fit for a queen.
Meanwhile, it’s not just small businesses getting in on the royal baby commemorations. A slew of major companies are honoring the birth of the newest royal with a slew of one-off advertisements, including Coca-Cola, Play-Doh, Oreo, Twinkies and even the folks from toilet tissue firm Charmin who obviously know a royal throne when they see one.Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
