Prince Charles and wife Camilla Duchess of Cornwall arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital today just after 5:30 p.m. local time where they met the royal baby—the first grandchild for Prince William‘s father.
The Prince of Wales described his grandson as “marvellous”, adding “wait and see, you’ll see in a minute”, after visiting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their new baby in hospital.
The couple entered the lavish Lindo Wing of the hospital, where Kate Middleton her husband and their son are currently “doing well” and enjoying their first days as a family together.
Will and Kate welcomed their first child July 22, 2013, at 4:24 p.m. local time, and since the little one’s arrival, Prince Charles has repeatedly expressed his excitement over becoming a first-time grandparent.
“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild,” the 65-year-old royal said in a statement Monday. “It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.”
He continued: “Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”
Grandpa Charles was equally as chipper this morning, telling local media he was “thrilled and excited” over the arrival of the little prince.
His wife Camilla was also ecstatic over the royal birth, telling reporters, “I think it’s wonderful news. Mother, son, father are all doing well, and I think it’s a wonderfully uplifting moment for the country.”
And she also gushed over her hubby, admitting he’ll be a fabulous grandparent:
“It’s very exciting, and I think it’s wonderful for the grandfather,” she said. “He’s brilliant with children, so he’ll have a wonderful time.”
Unfortunately, the Prince of Wales didn’t have any further information in regards to the little one’s name, simply stating “it’s not clear yet” when pressed for details on the baby’s moniker.
While the newborn’s names will be annouced “in due course,” folks are busy placing their bets on what Will and Kate will call their son. James is the current frontrunner, with 2-1 odds of being chosen, while both George and Henry come in at 5-1.
As the gambling game continues, the world is currently waiting for Kate to leave St. Mary’s, where she is expected to debut the newborn on the steps of the hospital with her husband, just like Princess Diana did with both William and Prince Harry.Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
