Solange Leads Peaceful Protest for Trayvon Martin in Brooklyn

Published on July 16, 2013 by   ·   No Comments (1)Less than a day after Beyoncé asked the crowd to observe a moment of silence in honor ofTrayvon Martin on Saturday night during her Nashville concert, her sister Solange led a rally calling for protest in Brooklyn.

The 27-year-old appeared in denim cutoffs and a black T-shirt just outside of Borough Hall and was joined by her close friends.

The younger Knowles explained her emotional reaction to learning that George Zimmermanwas acquitted of all charges in the shooting death of the Florida teenager.

Solange carried a homemade sign that quoted the late human rights leader and Muslim minister Malcom X that read, “I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it’s for or against. Malcolm X”

She also spoke to the crowd through a loudspeaker and appeared outraged at the verdict. Solange was calm and collected as she addressed the crowd, which was estimated to be in the hundreds, and thanked everyone for their participation.

The singer took to Twitter to further vent about the trial that rocked the nation and the peaceful protest.

“Seeing & gathering with people today/tonight all for the same fight helped to restore my faith in humanity…” she said.

She added: “I am optimistic…I am sick of racism & want to do something about it.”

And the Knowles ladies weren’t the only ones who spoke out about the trial.

Rihanna wrote on her Twitter, “This is the saddest news ever!!! #whatsjustice #pray4theMartinFamily.”

Miley Cyrus also joined the public discussion by posting, “I feel sick. #RIPTrayvonMartin. No justice, no peace.”

An angry Lena Dunham wrote, “No. My heart is with Sybrina Fulton, Rachel Jeantel, everyone who loved Trayvon and has been sent the message that his life didn’t matter.”

Saturday evening, a jury of six women ruled that Zimmerman was not guilty of second-degree murder after a highly publicized (1) (1)Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
