Leighton Meester’s Role Recast in Veronica Mars Movie

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester will not be reprising her role as Carrie Bishop in the highly anticipated Veronica Mars movie, but fans can still expect to see the character on the big screen in 2014.

Creator Rob Thomas announced thatAndrea Estella, the lead singer of the bandTwin Sister, will be taking over the role due to scheduling conflicts. “Sadly, Leighton was doing a different movie during the same time frame on the wrong coast,” Thomas wrote in an e-mail to Kickstarter backers. “In the end, she was unavailable.”

Estella scored the role because Thomas is a fan of Twin Sister’s music and will be using some of their songs in the film (Thomas hints that “I Want a Song” was a major inspiration while he was writing the film). Oh, and Carrie Bishop will be showing off some vocal skills!

“One of the reasons I wanted Leighton, beyond her talent/beauty/history in the show, was that we needed a performer who could sing in this important role,” Thomas explained. “Once it became evident that we couldn’t make Leighton’s schedule work, I decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie.”

If Meester, who skyrocketed to fame after her recurring gig on Veronica Mars when she took on the role of high school queen bee Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, would’ve been available to reprise her role as Carrie, who we hear plays an important role in the film’s mystery, it would have reunited her with Kristen Bell aka the voice of Gossip Girl.Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
