Just three days after the Oscar winner’s aunt, Debbie Martin, lost her battle to breast cancer, her husband, Ron, exclusively tells E! News the family is planning her funeral and working with a charity to raise money for BRCA genetic testing.
“We are making the final arrangements for the funeral as we speak,” Martin says. “But we expect it to be this Sunday at noon at El Camino Memorial in Sorrento Valley near our home.”
Jolie will not be in attendance as she is planning to appear at the premiere of Brad Pitt‘s zombie flick World War Z, but Martin says she been incredible supporting throughout the family tragedy.
“Angelina will be in London on Sunday so she won’t be able to attend but she has been in touch with us and with various other members of the family, which has obviously been lovely and has meant a lot to us.”
Jolie chose to undergo a preventative double mastectomy after learning she possessed the “faulty” BRCA gene. However, she admitted the financial cost, around $3,000, is a a large burden for many—an obstacle which Martin hopes to eliminate.
“We are currently in the process of setting up a foundation in Debbie’s memory and we are hoping to raise money for women who can’t afford to get BRCA testing,” Martin tells E! News.
“We are hoping to work with a charity called the Clearity Foundation so that every woman in America will have access to BRCA testing that could save her life—no matter how much money she has.”
Sounds like a wonderful way to honor Debbie’s life.Follow @Infocelebrity on Twitter!
